Day of Empire, sourced by Worldwide Bloodstock, has an  impressive win at Singapore;

Well-backed debutant Day Of Empire franked his good trial form with an impressive win in the $65,000 Restricted Maiden-2 (2 & 3YO) Emirates Sao Paulo Stakes on Sunday.

Settled in midfield on the rails by jockey Vlad Duric, the Delago Brom three-year-old was peeled out wide for his run, mowing down Bel’s Ringer (Brett Prebble) at the 100m before staving off $15 favourite Ramjet’s (Barend Vorster) challenge on the outside to score by half-a-length in 1min 10.9secs.

Day Of Empire ($16) is raced by new owner Tan Tiong Boon and was chosen by bloodstock agent Cameron Cooke of Worldwide Bloodstock for trainer Michael Freedman.

“It was Cameron, who’s at the races today, who picked the horse from a trial at Cranbourne,” said Freedman.

“I liked what I saw and he was soon over with us. He was well-prepared fitness-wise but he probably needed more trials than usual because he mucks around at the barriers.

“He’s still very green and all stirry, but he was very strong to the line today and can only get better with time.

“I think he’ll get better over further. He should be able to see the mile and he looks to be horse for the future.”

Cooke was of course rapt with his acquisition’s debut win and is now hoping another one of his selections follows suit in the Emirates Singapore Derby later in the day.

“I also bought Subordinate for Michael and I’m certainly looking forward to seeing him race later in the Derby,” said Cooke.

“Things have been going great with the horses and Michael. It’s all very exciting for the future.”

The Northwest Racing Stable-owned Subordinate is one of Freedman’s three-pronged attack in the $1 million event over 2000m, the other two being the Katsumi Yoshida pair of Jabal Tarik and Ribeiro.

Day Of Empire’s win also rang up an early double for Duric who kicked off the 12-race programme with Silver Lining for trainer Stephen Gray.  Vorster reported that Ramjet, Rocket Man's half-brother had put in a much more positive run,
but still had a lot to learn.

"He's still very green. He was pretty switched off in the run but had no idea what he was doing in the home straight," said Vorster.

"When he found the gap, he quickened up nicely but found one better on the line."

"He can only improve with more racing and the best thing to do is to take him step by step."
